DAVID BROOKE RESUME - Director and founder of M&BT
David Brooke graduated in 1996 with a Degree in Psychology and joined Nestle UK as graduate trainee. David worked rapidly up through the organisation taking on a number of European Management Roles before becoming the company's youngest Global Manager in 2002. Involved in a number of business critical Global Management projects and negotiations, David spent much of his time in Eastern Europe and the Far East. It was during this time that he witnessed at first hand the bespoke tailoring capabilities of China and Thailand as well as the manufacturing skills of Eastern Europe.
Since his university training, David had always been aware of the importance of body language and appearance in business.
"It takes just 20 secs for someone to form an opinion of you when you first meet" explains David. "Studies show that 80% of this first impression is governed by what you wear and your body language. At M&BT we refer to this as your personal brand identity and believe that this can be created and styled in order to improve your self esteem and success". David left Nestle in 2004 to set up Mathieson & Brooke Tailors Ltd.
BILL MATHIESON RESUME - Director and founder of M&BT
Bill Mathieson has held a number of senior management positions in major organisations including Global Director for Tesco (Nestle UK Ltd), Business Unit Manager ASDA Walmart (Nestle UK Ltd), UK Commercial Director Chilled Division (Nestle UK Ltd), European Commercial Director (Coca Cola Enterprises). Bill holds a management consultancy position within the business facilitating corporate strategy. "I remember being measured up by my tailor for the first time. It was fascinating, and being a rather awkward shape I couldn't wait to see what the end result was like.
After 4 weeks I received a parcel at my office back in London. As soon as I put the trousers on I could tell that they were significantly better than any of my other trousers. For a start I didn't need to wear a belt!
The jacket was also a great fit, although since then I have tailored my jackets to show much more taper and to be more fitted all over. That's the beauty of developing a bespoke wardrobe, you can tweak the cut and style of your jacket and trousers to meet your changing needs.
The second time I visited my tailor I had a list of design features and fabrics that I wanted to try, and from this point I never looked back! I'm lucky in my role now because I get to see this transformation in my clients every week.
I think the really interesting learning from the early days was the impact that having a good suit can have on your self-esteem. I would defy anyone to say that they do not feel more confident in a work environment when they are dressed well and look the part."
David Brooke, Director, M&BT.
